A percentage of its sales during grand opening weekend, July 10-12, will be donated to the Hawaii Foodbank.

Nalu Health Bar & Café has opened a new location in Haleiwa, marking the third Oahu store for the health food brand.

Founded by four friends from South America who wanted a place to offer healthy post-surf bites, Nalu launched in Kailua in 2015 and later expanded to include a second store at South Shore Market in Kakaako.

But they always wanted to have a location on the North Shore, said Chris Pfisterer, one of Nalu’s owners.

“We love North Shore,” Pfisterer said. “As surfers and nature-lovers, North Shore is one of our favorite sides of the island and is where we spend a lot of time when not working … We also have many customers from North Shore that visit our Kailua and [South Shore Market] locations and they always mentioned we would be a very good addition to the community. We slowly started looking for a spot and luckily found a great opportunity.”

The new 900-square-feet store opened at the end of May and has 10 employees. Like Nalu’s other locations, the Haleiwa store features an array of fresh juices and smoothies, sandwiches and wraps. Nalu also is known for its acai bowls, which are naturally sweetened and feature berries sourced from Brazil.
